FAYETTE – Gary G. Fether, age 79, of Fayette, passed away Thursday, October 17, 2024, at Fulton County Heath Center.

He was born in Wauseon on July 24, 1945, to the late Bernard D. and Virge J. (Hochstetler) Fether.

Gary graduated from Gorham-Fayette High School in 1963, and then attended Tri-State College in Angola for one year.

He then entered the United States Air Force in 1965, serving his training at Chanute AFB in Illinois for Air Force Aircraft Equipment Repair; and during the Vietnam War, he served at U-Tapao base in Thailand.

In 1969, he was honorably discharged from the Air Force and started working for Chase Brass for 40 years as a finish machine operator. It was also in 1969 he married the love of his life, Betty Travis, and she survives.

Gary was also a crop and cattle farmer, along with owning Fether Orchard. He was a member of the Fayette Church of the Nazarene, serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years; and also a member of Gideons International.

He spent many of his free hours studying prophecy. Gary was a family man, taking care of his mother the last 20 plus years of her life. He loved to take canoe fishing trips to Canada with his friends.

Surviving along with his wife of nearly 55 years, Betty, are his sons, Johnathan (Cheryl) and Terrell Fether; and a sister, Linda (Darle) Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Roger Fether.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Fayette Church of the Nazarene, with Rev. Andy Reynard, officiating. Interment followed in Pleasant View Union Cemetery, Fayette.
