Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy made a stop in Williams County on June 19 during a fundraising event held at JJ Winns restaurant in Bryan.
The event drew a notable crowd, including State Representative Jim Hoops, Bryan Mayor Carrie Schlade, Pioneer Mayor Ed Kidston, Williams County Commissioner Terry Rummel, and any others.
According to Mayor Kidston, the gathering focused heavily on education. Ramaswamy spoke about upcoming legislation in the Ohio House that, if passed, would eliminate inside millage, a key source of funding for local governments and school districts.
He also addressed concerns about student performance, comparing the academic outcomes of American students with those in countries like China, noting that U.S. students often lag behind and calling for change.
Several students from North Central School and a student from Edgerton were also in attendance and had the opportunity to hear directly from the candidate as he fielded questions during the meal.
