(July 8th, 2015) – EDGERTON: Hilltop’s magic postseason run came to an end on Wednesday, July 8, as the Cadets fell to the Bulldogs of Edgerton.  After losing their first game of ACME Sectionals, the boys of West Unity had bounced back to win 3 games in a row, even avenging that early loss.  Yet, the Bulldogs proved to be too big an obstacle to overcome, as Hilltop was ejected from the double-elimination tournament.

The Cadets fell to Edgerton 13-0.

It was a rough evening for the Hilltop defense.  Edgerton began the game by ripping off 4 runs in the first, then another in the second.  Unable to respond with their bats, the West Unity squad could do little as The Bulldogs racked up 6 more runs in the third, and single runs in the fourth and fifth to close out the game in 5 innings.

Edgerton’s defense had earned a perfect game against the talented Hilltop team.

Pitching for the Cadets were Kohl Collins, Ryan Brooker, Quinn Smith, Isaac VanArsdalen, and Cole Haynes.  It was Collins who took the loss, giving up 4 runs in 1.1 innings from 5 hits of work.  Haynes finished out the contest, standing at the mound for 1 innings.  He struck out 3 of the 5 Bulldog batters he faced, allowing no earned runs and only 1 hit, while walking a Bulldog as well.
