WEST UNITY – The Hilltop Cadets opened up the 2013 season on April 1 with a game against Ayersville at the new sports complex just to the west of the Hilltop School.

The West Unity baseball programs have been around for decades, but flourished under the influence of Mr. VanArsdalen. A former coach, Mr. VanArsdalen was an original member of West Unity Little League Board from the 1970s, and the honor bestowed by the first pitch was a recognition of his substantial service to the community.

Unfortunately for the Cadets, they were unable to follow up on the spirit of celebration of the day. Battling the high winds and the cold temperatures, they came out flat, and the Pilots obliged by flattening them further to the tune of a 27-7 beatdown.

No stats were received from the school pursuant to the game.
