Hilltop Drops Game Two Of Double Header To Edgerton

June 14, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(June 4th, 2015) – WEST UNITY: Following an astounding offensive assault from their guests from Edgerton, the Cadet defense was able to slow down the Bulldog offense a bit in game two of a double header between the two teams.  Still, the Edgerton offense proved to be a formidable force, giving the road team the edge it needed to complete a sweep in West Unity.

Hilltop dropped the game to the Bulldogs 9-1.

Edgerton opened the contest with a 4 run effort to pull ahead early.  With the Cadets unable to respond in the bottom half of the inning, their Bulldog counterparts tacked on another run in each of the second and third innings.  In the bottom of the third, Quinn Smith was able to drive in sophomore-to-be Jack Blaisdell home to put Hilltop on the board.  The Bulldogs continued to add to their advantage, however, tacking on a run in the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.  With their bats drying up, the hometown Cadets were handed the eight run defeat.

Smith started out on the mound for Hilltop, pitching for 2.1 innings.  He gave up 4 earned runs from 7 hits, striking out 3 batters while walking 3 more.  Isaac VanArsdalen finished out the final 4.2 innings, allowing 1 earned run off of 5 hits.  He also acquired 3 strikeouts, and gave up no walks.

Cadet Tyler Suboski connected with the ball on 2 of his 3 plate appearances, earning a pair of singles.  Senior-to-be Levi Grant, who went 1 for 2 on Hilltop’s behalf, hit for a double.  In addition to knocking home his team’s only run, Smith also lit up the base paths with 2 stolen bases.
