Fulton County, Ohio (April, 11, 2017) – One in four households in the U.S. pays more than 30 percent of their income for housing and may have difficulty affording necessities such as food, clothing or medical care. Fulton County is not immune to this dilemma. To address the critical need for affordable housing in our community and across the country, Habitat for Humanity of Fulton County is joining Home is the Key, a national campaign by Habitat for Humanity International aimed at highlighting the critical need for decent, affordable shelter throughout the month of April.

“We have seen firsthand how an affordable home can play a key role positively influencing education, health and financial opportunities for families and individuals,” said Heidi Kern, Executive Director, Habitat for Humanity of Fulton County. “Decent shelter is something we all need to thrive, and yet many in Fulton County still live in inadequate housing conditions. We invite our community in joining us in April and help us partner with even more homeowners in need of a hand up and a decent place to call home.”

In 2016, Habitat charged ahead and overlapped projects, completing 2 new constructions and their first-ever home repair project. These milestones added 10 individuals to the ever-growing list of Habitat homeowners who have benefitted from this local mission, earning safe, secure and stable futures through affordable homeownership and repairs. Now as we gear up and plan for our next projects, Habitat will take another leap of faith in searching for necessary funds to continue building and repairing Fulton County homes. “The need for our services is evident in the number of applicants we regularly receive and the stories I hear about their poor living conditions”, states Ms. Kern. She adds, “People are willing to work hard to be a Habitat partner and looking back, it thrills me to see their lives change as they complete the program requirements and begin a fresh, new future with pride in their accomplishments. What a difference a home makes!”

Home is The Key is just the beginning of Habitat’s 10 year anniversary in Fulton County. We hope to begin the next 10 years with funding to help even more families who need housing stability and self-reliance. To learn how to get involved with Habitat for Humanity, visit www.habitatfco.org.
