The Clinton Township Trustees held its meeting on Thursday, March 19, 2026, at 1 p.m., opening with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance before moving into regular business. Trustees approved the minutes from the March 5 meeting, approved the March 19 agenda, approved bills for payment, and approved the fiscal officer’s reports.
SALT STORAGE BUILDING
During old business, trustees discussed ongoing plans for work at the old salt storage building. Trustees said they recently met with an individual handling the project and made some adjustments to the proposed work.

Among the changes discussed was removing one concrete wall to create more usable space on one end of the building, which would also require a larger door and could affect the project budget.
Trustees also discussed the lack of electrical service at the building and said they were looking into ways to avoid having to install electric there, including the possibility of manually operated doors.
COUNTY ROAD 18 DAMAGE
The board also returned to a long-running issue involving damage along County Road 18. Trustees said they had been in contact with a representative connected to the excavator work believed to have caused damage along the area.
That individual was unable to attend the current March 19 meeting, but trustees said they expect to meet with him before their next meeting on April 2 at the road, and also have him attend that session.
Trustees indicated they want to inspect the damage together and continue efforts to resolve the matter but also said that if no resolution is reached after that, the issue may be taken to the prosecutor.
SENIOR CENTER BUILDING
Another major topic involved the former senior center building. Trustees said they had discussions regarding a lease agreement with Earl Mechanical and were told there was no issue moving forward. The board approved entering into a lease agreement with Earl Mechanical for use of the second floor.
Discussion also included re-keying locks before the company moves in on April 1, along with updating the lease arrangement affecting Eagle Point Worship Center, which uses the first floor, particularly in regard to snow removal responsibilities.
BERM RECLAIMER REQUEST
Trustees also discussed a request from Amboy Township regarding the possible use of the berm reclaimer jointly owned by Clinton Township and Dover Township.

Board members noted the machine is specialized equipment and said any outside use would require more discussion as well as instruction on how to operate it properly. No final decision was made.
TRUCK ROUTES
The board additionally addressed proposed truck routes tied to future road work and agreed certain township roads should not be used for transport.
Trustees approved action aimed at keeping work trucks off Road 18 between C and D, as well as roads C and AC, and said a resolution would be sent to the county engineer’s office.
FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Fire Chief Phil Kessler reported there was not a great deal of new business from the department but said ladder testing had been completed and final paperwork was still pending.

He also announced a swearing in ceremony is planned for April 6 at about 4:40 p.m. for Hannah Wilson, a part-time employee who recently completed the hours needed for her new position.
COUNCIL OF GOVERNMENTS AND EMS LEVY
Chief Kessler also updated trustees on broader emergency service discussions, including recent conversations about the possible formation of a Council of Governments (COG), which could allow smaller local governments to work together in providing fire or EMS services.
Trustees and fire officials said additional discussions are expected with the City of Wauseon, possibly during a council of the whole meeting, as local officials continue exploring future service structure and funding options.
That conversation led into further discussion of the countywide EMS levy expected to appear on the May ballot.
Trustees expressed concern about how future contracts and funding could be handled if the levy passes and also discussed uncertainty surrounding future property tax issues and how those could affect next steps.
Trustees also said there are still many unanswered questions, including what future contracts may look like and how they may affect current service providers.
ROAD PROJECTS
Trustees continued on and discussed estimates for work on County Road B between Roads 16 and 17 and on County Road 18 between Roads C and D.
The board approved moving forward with a surface treatment project totaling $35,300 and also approved additional RAP Micro work estimated at $120,940. Striping related to the project is expected to be discussed later.

DRAINAGE CONCERNS
Near the end of the meeting, trustees discussed drainage concerns near County Road 13 at Road B.
The conversation centered on standing water at a field corner, the possible need for a catch basin, and concerns about a large pond and elevated pond wall to the south that may be affecting drainage patterns onto neighboring property.
Trustees said the issue may need to be reviewed through county or zoning channels. The meeting was then adjourned.
