Remember hearing in early January that we have yet to experience much of a winter? Some are now saying those verbalizing the late arrival of Winter should “bite their tongue”.
Last night’s storm that dropped snow, sleet, freezing rain, traditional rain along with fog just added itself to the list of storms that have plagued our area of the State since mid-January. This morning some local government offices, schools along with numerous businesses closed due to the extremely icy conditions that have caused damage while also bringing rare beauty to our area. Make sure to see our separate article concerning athletic cancellations for tonight.
Around 30% of our newspaper coverage area has experienced power outages throughout the day, please be safe if venturing out not only on the ice but also around any damaged power lines or poles. We are expected to receive extremely heavy winds tonight with gusts up to 45 mph predicted which has the potential of also further damaging trees and structures already streighning under the weight of the ice.
Thank you to our faithful readers for sharing the below photos, we will add to the slideshow as images are received.
