Joanne SkeensJoanne Y. Skeens, 74 years, of Ocala, Florida, and a former Edgerton and Bryan resident, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2015 at E.T. York Care Center, Gainesville, Florida. Joanne was born April 3, 1941 in Alvordton, Ohio, the daughter of the late Donald Lavon and Elsie Marie (Belknap) Humbarger, Sr. She was a 1959 graduate of Bryan High School. She married Benjamin D. Skeens on December 31, 1980 in Bryan, and he preceded her in death on December 31, 2004. Joanne began her working career as a waitress at her dad’s restaurant, the former Don’s Restaurant on the Square in Bryan. She then was the Personnel Director for the former Murphy Mart in Bryan, Ohio. After moving to Florida, Joanne worked for Albertson’s Supermarkets in Jacksonville and Ocala. She was a member of Eastland Baptist Church in Bryan, Ohio. Joanne was a member of a monthly dominoes club which she enjoyed being part of. She also found great pleasure in growing plants, taking an occasional trip to the casino, traveling and spending quality time with her family.

Surviving are her eight daughters, Kyra (Jefferson) Brown of Waller, Texas, Tonya Hughes of Orange Park, Florida, Beth Roberts of Jacksonville, Florida, Sue (Ed) Kimpel of Edgerton, Ohio, Nancy (Tom) Vrell of LaGrange, Indiana, Pam (Paul) Fry of Bryan, Ohio, Ann Moore of Indianapolis, Indiana and Sherry Lautermilch of Springville, California, 19 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rose (Jim) Smolka of Mishawaka, Indiana; one brother, Rex (Judith) Humbarger of Niles, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin, grandson, Justin Musselwhite; four sisters, Francile Van Syckle, Betty Sanchez, Dawn Roberts and Carol Humbarger; three brothers, Donald Humbarger, Jr., Duane Humbarger and Richard Humbarger.

Visitation for Joanne Y. Skeens will be held Friday, September 11, 2015 from 2:00 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home – Greenisen Chapel, 225 East High Street, Bryan where funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 12, 2015, with her nephew Bob Singer, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Riverview Memory Gardens, Defiance, Ohio.
