Kim Cogswell (1968-2018)

A true gentle giant earned his wings on Friday October 12, 2018.  Kim was in a tragic accident on M99 and Camden Road North of Pioneer in Hillsdale County Michigan while driving for Powers & Sons, where he had worked for the last 24 years.

He started his driving career with Cogswell & Sons Milk Hauling and the family farming business.  His driving career led to many friendships, first through the family business and then with Powers.

Kim graduated from North Central High School and Four County Joint Vocational Center in 1987, where he took Ag Mechanics.  He was a member of the NCHS wrestling team and involved in FFA.

He showed hogs at the Williams County fair for several years through 4-H and FFA.  In his adult life, he was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Loyal Order of Moose.

Anyone who spent much time with Kim can think of many of his sayings that may not be appropriate in print here, but “Now I’m here to tell ya …” was one of his favorites.  Kim had many opinions which he wasn’t afraid to share, but even if you disagreed with him, he had a way to make you laugh.  He was such a large presence, in personality and stature, always full of love and sincerity.  If you can imagine Kim in your head, he would surely be wearing a short-sleeved, red plaid button-down shirt with (arguably) one too many buttons undone and possibly a pair of denim shorts with ‘mandals.’

Maybe because he was a big one himself, Kim loved kids.  He had a huge impact on the lives of his son, niece and nephews, and we can only imagine how great of a grandfather he would have been to little Tucker.  He was so excited this past week to show off pictures of his new grandson to everyone he talked to.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, riding his motorcycle, driving his Jeep, being outdoors, and wrenching on whatever needed fixed (or he thought needed the Cogswell touch).  Kim had also recently begun travelling outside of northwest Ohio, including a trip to Jamaica in February where he proposed to his fiancé and soulmate, Nikki.

Kim was born in Montpelier, Ohio to Leonard “Junior” and Marilyn (Seigel) Cogswell on December 18, 1968.  He would have celebrated the big 5-0 this year with one heck of a party, even though his birthday was on a Tuesday.
