A press release has been put out by the Pioneer Police Department regarding the recent search and recovery operation at Lake Pioneer. The statement reads as follows.
“On the evening of 9/18/2024, Pioneer Police and Pioneer First Responders responded to Lake Pioneer off Lakeshore Drive in regards to a suspected drowning. Upon arrival, contact was made with a Male subject who confirmed there was a boating accident which resulted in the possible drowning of another male.”
“Local agencies responded to the scene for an attempted rescue of the subject who was reportedly in the water. Those attempts to locate the victim were unsuccessful and a recovery operation was initiated. Multiple agencies from Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana collaborated together to locate 25-year-old Logan Donald Ries of Montpelier who drowned in Lake Pioneer after the canoe he was in capsized.
“Mr. Ries was located at 7:17 p.m. on the evening of 9/20/2024. This situation is still an active and ongoing investigation. Our condolences go out to Mr. Ries’ family and friends during this difficult time. Authority Chief Timothy Livengood.”
As stated in the press release and as previously reported on by The Village Reporter, the incident took place in the evening hours of Wednesday, September 18th. Due to the sensitivity of the matter at hand and a wish to contact the family members of the victim, only a minimal amount of information was released up to this point.
Numerous agencies were also involved in this rescue and recovery attempt, with area businesses helping to assist these officials during this tough time by providing free meals.
