Larry Crommer (1931-2021)

Larry L. Crommer, 89, of Pioneer passed away Sunday evening at Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center. He was born on January 27, 1931 in Amboy Township, Hillsdale County, Michigan to Melvin J. and Loraine I. (Olmstead) Crommer.

Larry graduated from Pioneer High School in 1949. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force as an Airman 1st Class during the Korean War. He married Eleanor J. Gratz on July 9, 1976 in Pioneer and she survives.

Larry was an independent Milk and Dairy Distributor for 35 years, providing house to house and wholesale products, mainly for Babcock Dairy out of Toledo, until his retirement in 1991.

He was a former member of the Pioneer United Methodist Church and a current member of Lakeview United Brethren Church in Camden.  He also was a member of the Pioneer American Legion, Pioneer VFW, Montpelier Eagles and the Montpelier Moose.


He is survived by his daughter Jennifer (Kevin) Joyce of Granger, Indiana; step children Sherry Trowbridge of Archbold, Marty (Laura) Connin of Fernandina Beach, Florida, Patricia (Doug) Lashaway of Pioneer and Penny J. Dewitt of Napoleon; grandchildren Thomas, John, Kate, Jayna, Jaymie, Kristy, Ashley, Eric, Troy, Caleigh and Bridgette; and many great grandchildren.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Alice in 1972, children Melanie and Eric Crommer in 1972, two sisters Margaret Case and Eleanor Kind, a brother Charles Crommer and a step son-in-law James Trowbridge.

Visitation for Larry will be Wednesday, January 20th from 3-7pm at Lakeview United Brethren Church in Camden, Michigan. Services will be on Thursday at 1pm at the church with Pastor Stephen Smith to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer. Per the Governors orders, those wishing to attend services are encouraged to bring a mask and follow the recommended social distancing guidelines.
