The Village of Lyons held its meeting on Monday, July 13, at 7 p.m. The meeting began with the pledge of allegiance, followed by approval of the previous meeting minutes.

Following a presentation and a comparison of proposals from ARS and Atlas, council entered executive session to discuss the matter.

Upon returning from executive session, council voted to retain Atlas for another three years beginning August 1. ARS proposed charging $53.85 for a 96-gallon toter and $15 for a pack of 10 bags, while Atlas proposed $60 for a toter and $1.75 for a pack of 10 bags.

Council also considered the level of service provided by each company. Officials noted that Atlas, a smaller locally operated company, has frequently collected additional items without charging or questioning the village or its residents.

Although that service is not required under the contract, officials said the company’s willingness to go beyond its normal responsibilities has been appreciated.

Council also received an update on the village’s planned tower project. Foundation work is expected to begin once the necessary drawings and permits are approved, with officials hoping construction can start during the first or second week of August.

The village is also gathering prices for the possible installation of Wi-Fi and security cameras at local parks. A storm-damaged tree at Green Park has been addressed.

The village sewer jetter has been repaired at a cost of $1,035.10. A new handheld water meter reader has also been sent to Badger Meter, where the required software will be installed.

Village representatives held their first water contract meeting with the City of Wauseon on July 7. Pricing information is expected soon, allowing council to determine how it would like to proceed.

Aqualine conducted a village-wide leak check on July 6. Officials are also working with the family of LuAnn Tipton regarding a leak at her property. Water service has been shut off while the situation is addressed.

The village will conduct lead and copper testing in August as part of Environmental Protection Agency requirements.

Work will also soon begin on the village’s EPA service line inventory, which must be completed for requirements taking effect in 2027.

Final paperwork has been received from the village auditor and solicitor regarding the vacation of a strip of land near Kennedy Street and West Street.

Sutter Development is preparing to move additional homes to 512 and 514 N. Adrian Street. Council also discussed zoning concerns involving several properties with trash, vehicle and animal issues.

The Regional Planning meeting has been rescheduled for July 21 at 5 p.m. John Good is expected to attend on behalf of the village.

Several memorial trees were recently planted by R&W Nursery. One tree honoring Mel O’Hara’s son was donated by the village and local families, including Tanya and R.J. Lumbrezer, Y&R Patek, J/L Miller and C/D Rowland. Another memorial tree was also donated by Lyndsay and Kent Peebles.

Officials also reported that the Lyons Farmers Market continues to perform well. The next market will be held on Saturday, July 18.

With nothing further, the meeting was adjourned. The next Lyons Village Council meeting is scheduled for August 10, 2026, at 7 p.m.
