The Madison Township Trustees met in a regular session on Monday, April 27 at the township office.
In attendance were trustees Mark Schmucker, Jen Zuver and Terry Huffman. Also present were Fiscal Officer Deb Maneval, Fire Chief Jason Marvin, Road Maintenance employee Tony Carpenter, Dan VanArsdalen, Junior Dennison and Tyler Bryner. The trustees then approved the April 13 meeting minutes and payment of bills.
Marvin and the trustees noted that the Madison Township/Kunkle Fire Department will continue to answer any calls as they have in the past despite the recent situation involving the Pioneer Fire Department.
The fire department will keep track of the number of runs and re-address the issue if the township has excessive costs due to extra runs.
Township resident Dan VanArsdalen addressed the trustees regarding the traffic signs in Kunkle.
VanArsdalen had spoken with West Unity officials who had received the Sign Grant, and they said the cost was a lot more with the grant than without.
He then wrote up a quote on the cost of street signs for Kunkle and suggested the township could purchase the traffic signs through RoadTrafficSigns.com at a cost of $337.73 for 10 road traffic signs. It doesn’t include any posts needed.
Since all of the township road signs have been replaced, VanArsdalen would like to see the street signs replaced in Kunkle.

Another township resident, Junior Dennison, said if the township proceeded with the project, he would like to donate the signs to the township.
The recent township-wide trash cleanup went very well in which there were four dumpsters filled. Trustees thanked Kevin Carr for hauling the scrap metal. This saved at least one dumpster.
Carpenter will be doing some yard work he wants to do for the property next to the salt bin. He will be working up the ground and re-seeding it.
In road maintenance matters, Carpenter recommended the following county roads for chip and seal work this year. This will include County Roads 15 and 16 south to the Michigan state line and on County Road 16.25 to County Road S.
The township has contracted with the Elgin Service Center of Pioneer to do some tile work on County Road N-65.
Schmucker received a phone call asking who would plow snow from the new Pioneer village limit north of town since it was annexed.
Huffman spoke with Holiday City Village Administrator Blair Campbell regarding compensation of $1,000 to the township for snow removal done in February on Traxler Drive. The township will invoice Holiday City for the snow removal.
He also added that Holiday City has some signs that they want the township to purchase and install.
Carpenter suggested Holiday City contact the county since this is where the signs are reordered through, and the county would be the ones to put them up. Huffman will share this with Campbell.
Next meeting is Monday, May 11 at 7 p.m.
