To recognize local investments in buildings, landscaping, events and other accomplishments, Bryan Development has created a “Spotlight Award.” March’s Spotlight Award goes to Dan Stuckey, Real Estate Advantage Team, located at 103 South Main Street.

Mr. Stuckey began selling real estate in 2004, eventually getting his real estate broker’s license in 2019. On February 28, 2020, he purchased the business and the building at 103 South Main, and renamed it Real Estate Advantage Team.

Within 10 days of the purchase, the country was entering the COVID-19 shutdown. Although concerned over his untimely investment, it didn’t stop Dan from working.

He took advantage of the free time to do inside improvements to the building. This included painting the entire first floor, making updates and repairs, installing new flooring and new office furniture.

Even though the real estate business started to come back from COVID, it didn’t stop Dan from continuing his work on the building.

His next focus was the exterior. “I wanted to make the building stand out since we are on the Square. I’m very patriotic, and wanted to honor our veterans by putting up huge American flags in the upstairs windows.”

An electrician was hired to install lighting to illuminate the front with an emphasis on the flags. Dan purchased a new awning in Real Estate Advantage’s business colors, and installed lighted flyer holders to highlight available properties for sale in his front window.

The exterior work didn’t stop there. All 16 windows needed glazed, caulked, scraped, and painted. Similar work was needed on the side doors, fire escape, and architectural features.

After receiving bids from contractors, Mr. Stuckey decided to do the work himself. He knew he would need a lift to accomplish much of the work, but renting a lift wasn’t practical.

Dan’s a busy guy, and didn’t want the lift just sitting around unused when his schedule and weather prohibited him from working on the project.

So using his midwestern ingenuity, Dan purchased his own lift. With the work completed, he will sell the lift, recouping his investment.

Dan’s pleased with the results, and happy to have his building be a good image for his business and downtown Bryan. Dan said “Real Estate Advantage’s Team is striving to be the best we can be!”

Bryan Development’s mission is to enrich the community by encouraging economic activity, preservation and community pride. Spotlight Awards go to a Bryan resident, business, industry, or institution that has invested in new construction, preservation, beautification efforts, or those with milestone events.

Recipients are recognized by Bryan Development with a plaque and through social media and local news outlets. The community is encouraged to submit Spotlight Award nominations at developbryan@gmail.com.
