
Marcille J. Carter, 100, of Holiday City passed away Thursday night at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home in Montpelier. She was born on June 16, 1918 in Montgomery, Michigan to Harry and Magnolia (Royer) Shaffer. She married Orva E. “Bud” Carter and he preceded her in death in 1999.
Marcille was a member of the Kunkle United Brethren Church where she was a member of the Women of the Church. In 1960 she retired from Fifty Corporation in Bryan as a shipping department packer. Marcille loved to embroider and make quilts. She was affectionately known as “The Cookie Lady”. Marcille enjoyed camping trips up north with her husband, Bud.
She is survived by one son Paul (Teresa) Carter of Bryan; two daughters Janet Huffman of Pioneer and Nancy McKelvey of Montpelier; nineteen grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren; daughter-in-law Sandy Carter of Pioneer; son-in-law Willis Keller of Montpelier; three brothers Carl Shaffer of Hillsdale, Michigan, Roy Shaffer of Ypsilanti, Michigan and Richard Shaffer of Frontier, Michigan; and sister Lillie Junge of Holgate, Ohio.
Marcille was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bud; two sons Charles and Carl Carter; two daughters June Keller and Phyllis Weber; two son-in-laws Robert Huffman and Marvin McKelvey; three brothers, Loren, Charles and Paul Shaffer; three sisters Jean Schofield, Mary Shaffer and Helen Moore.
Visitation for Marcille will be on Sunday, August 19th from 2-6 pm at the Thompson-Geesey Funeral Home on Empire Street in Montpelier. Services will be on Monday at 11:00 am at the funeral home with Pastor David Tilly to officiate. Interment will follow at Floral Grove Cemetery in Pioneer.
