Mary Ida Fry, age 90, of Bryan and a long-time resident of Edon, Ohio, passed away at 7:15 A.M. on Sunday, February 25, 2024, at Community Health Professionals Inpatient Hospice near Defiance, Ohio.

Mrs. Fry was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Blakeslee, Ohio and the Catholic Ladies of Columbus. She worked at the Ohio Art Company on the Etch-A-Sketch line for 43 1/2 years until the line was closed.

Mary was a member of the Northwest Ohio Toy Tractor Collectors Club, and she collected dolls and banks.


Mary Ida was born on November 9, 1933, in Edgerton, Ohio, the daughter of George K. and Mary (Horvath) Hartley.

She was a 1951 graduate of Edgerton High School.  She married Paul J. Fry on November 26, 1953, in Edgerton, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on June 7, 2014.

Survivors also include two sons, Paul J. (Pamela) Fry, Jr. and Donald D. (Shelly) Fry, both of Bryan; two daughters, Kathleen (Brian) Dunkle, of Edgerton, Ohio, and Melissa (Spencer) Zeedyk, of Statesville, North Carolina; ten grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; brother, Clarence Hartley, of Conway, South Carolina; brother in law, Alfred (Mary Ellen) Fry, of Wapakoneta and a sisters-in-law, Barbara Hartley, of Edgerton and Peggy Fry, of Swanton.


She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, William (Regina) Hartley and Richard Hartley; and sister, Elizabeth (Robert) Guylas and sisters-in-law, Edna Hartley and Jean Hartley.

Services for Mary Ida Fry will be held on Friday, March 1, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Bryan with Father Andrew Wellmann officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Blakeslee. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024, from 4:00-7:00 P.M. in the Krill Funeral Home, 860 West Mulberry Street, Bryan, with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 P.M. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
