(May 19th, 2015) – BRYAN: An early lead generated by the Lady Bulldogs proved to be too much for Montpelier to overcome. Attempting to rally in the bottom of the seventh, the Lady Locos just didn’t have enough steam in the engine to stave off the upset.

Montpelier was defeated by Edgerton 3-1.

All three of the Lady Bulldog runs came at the top of the game’s opening inning. From that point on, the contest became a defensive stalemate, with neither side able to generate a run during innings two through six. Then, in the bottom of the seventh, Montpelier began to come back. They broke through the Edgerton defense, scoring a run. They couldn’t continue this trend, however, as they weren’t able to bring another Loco girl across the plate, resulting in the 2 run loss.

It was Mikayla Shilt who drove in the lone Locomotive run in the contest. Going 1 for 4 from the plate, her only hit was an RBI single. In her final game in a Montpelier uniform, Christy Duchene went 2 for 3 during her plate appearances, hitting for a pair of singles. Fellow senior Breanna Stein also hit 2 singles, thanks to her 2 for 4 effort at the plate. Their classmate, Sidney Houk, connected with the ball on 1 of her 2 times standing in the batter’s box, earning a single as well.

Stein also took to the mound for the Loco girls. Pitching for all seven innings, she gave up 3 runs from 5 hits. She also struck out 7 Bulldogs, walking none in a great final showing from the senior.
