Montpelier Loses To Hicksville In Five Innings

April 5, 2015Updated:December 31, 2020No Comments2 Mins Read

(April 4th, 2015) – MONTPELIER: The first of two games against the Lady Aces didn’t go quite as the Locomotive girls had planned. In the opening contest of a double header against Green Meadows Conference opponent Hicksville, the Lady Locos struggled to find their rhythm early.

That ultimately led to their demise, as the Aces took game one in five innings, 12-2.

Pitcher Emily Sito took the loss for Montpelier. During her three innings on the mound, Sito gave up 15 hits. She also walked 3 batters, while striking out 2 more. Breanna Stein came in as a relief pitchdr to finish out the game.

A trio of Loco hitters did their part to try and get their team’s offense going. Christy Duchene, Haley Suffel, and Sydney Houk all got the better of Hicksville pitcher Allison Brickle. Each girl earned a double against the talented Lady Ace defense.

It was errors that did in the Locomotive girls. The hometown girls had difficulty judging both ground balls and fly balls throughout the early afternoon. This allowed more Hicksville runners to get on base, as well as prolong several innings.

By the conclusion of the fifth inning, Montpelier found themselves in a ten run deficit. A mercy rule was enacted, ending the contest despite two innings of play remaining on the scoreboard.
