Montpelier – The Defiance Post is investigating a serious injury crash that occurred on US 20 and State Route 576 in Bridgewater Township, Williams County. The crash occurred on March 7th, 2020 at approximately 9:57 pm.

A white 2003 Buick Century, driven by Nicholas Fee, age 32, of Montpelier, was traveling north on SR 576. A 2017 Peterbilt semi, driven by Emery Scharbarth, age 26, of Shiocton, Wisconsin, was traveling east on US 20.

Mr. Fee failed to stop for the stop sign and drove into the path of the semi. Mr. Fee’s vehicle was struck and forced off the right side of the roadway striking a concrete retaining wall.

Mr. Fee was transported to Montpelier Hospital where he was later taken to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne by air ambulance with serious injuries.

Mr. Scharbarth was not injured in the crash. US 20 was closed for approximately two and a half hours as a result of the crash and both drivers were wearing safety belts.

The patrol was assisted on scene by the Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Williams County EMS, Montpelier Police Department, Pioneer Fire and EMS, and Alvordton Fire.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers and occupants to always wear their safety belts and to never drive distracted or impaired.
