The Montpelier Park Board meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6th.

The board approved the minutes from the previous meeting and the financial statement. Next, Nick Ramos gave a Park and Pool Maintenance update which included the following:

Pool – exercising valves; cleaning leaves off deck; emptying pit and deep end.

Park – Aerated all park grounds; sprayed fall herbicides on park grounds; fertilized ball diamonds and park grounds; put away the soccer nets and goals; artificial turf in batting cages; working with electrical department to bury overhead lines on the light poles on the D2 girls field; sharpened mower blades; took down the volleyball and pickleball nets; took lights off trees from downtown; blowing leaves from fence rows; most of the month has been spent mulching leaves.

Sandy Gordon provided a Recreation Update, outlining the projects she worked on throughout October. She mentioned that the fire department has retired three flagpoles, two of which are still in good condition. The park board has the option to acquire these flagpoles if they wish.

Gordon suggested that a flagpole at Founders Park would be appealing and could help conceal an area where a tree had been removed.

The flagpole would be provided to the park board at no cost. After discussing the idea, the board agreed to take one of the flagpoles for use at Founders Park.

The board convened to discuss the amenities needed for the Iron Horse River trail. “We should prioritize the key amenities, starting with benches,” said Gordon.

They also discussed conducting a storyboard walk, with the library agreeing to assist in this effort. Other important items mentioned for the trail include disc golf, a memorial tree walk, an exercise equipment station, benches, and nature signage.

Gordon suggested that the board members walk the trail to better understand where to place these amenities and determine which ones should be prioritized.

With nothing further to discuss the board adjourned at 7:34 p.m. The next meeting will be December 4th at 7:00 p.m.
