Montpelier Village Council approved a contract on Monday, July 13, 2026, to replace aging filter media at the water treatment plant. A positive mid-year income tax was also received, showing collections continue to outpace recent years.

Council members Kevin Motter, Melissa Ewers, Heather Freese, Don Schlosser, Nathan Thompson and Chris Kannel were in attendance.

A resolution authorizing the replacement of filter media in two gravity filters at the Montpelier Village Water Treatment Plant was approved.

Village Manager Jason Rockey told council the work is part of a multi-year plan, with two filters scheduled for replacement this year and the remaining two budgeted for next year.

Rockey said proposal requests were sent to 11 companies, with four being received back. Water Treatment Plant Superintendent Justin Houk recommended accepting the lowest bid.

While the construction timeline has not been announced, Rockey stated that the work is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Council suspended the rules and approved the resolution.

A $2,000 “Then and Now” certificate for Best Air Compressor Services was passed for repairs at the water treatment plant.

Finance updates, presented by Acting Clerk Nikki Uribes, showed village income tax collections continuing to grow. Uribes noted a 3.26% increase from the previous three-year average of collections. In June 2026, $1,281,515.33 in income taxes was collected, which amounts to over $65,000 more than June 2025.

The Police and Fire Tax Fund has collected $142,390.56 in its first six months of the year.

During the Village Manager report, Rockey noted the village successfully tested all tornado warning sirens and they were all operational. He also announced that hydrant flushing is scheduled to begin next week.

Additional updates included the conclusion of the application period for the village’s open Clerk of Council/Finance positions, which attracted 14 applicants.

Rockey also stated that Mobile Auto Works would receive a 30-day notice to relocate its business, noting the property owner has no objections to the village ordinance requiring the move.

With no further business, the meeting adjourned at 6:22 p.m. The next Montpelier Village Council meeting is July 27, 2026, at 6 p.m.
