The Montpelier Village Council held their meeting on Monday, August 26th. The meeting began with a prayer followed by the Pledge of Allegiance.
Council then approved the agenda, minutes from the previous August 12th meeting, and changes to the instructional period and holidays in the Personnel Policy and Procedure Manual.
With school back in session Mayor Yagelski wanted to inform people that anyone riding a scooter must obey traffic laws such as stopping at a stop sign.
The floor was then handed over to Village Manager Jason Rockey, who provided a report indicating that the alleyway chip and seal operations were initiated and concluded on Friday, August 23rd.
Additionally, the village obtained authorization to establish an in-house commercial driver’s license (CDL) program.
In February 2022, the federal government introduced changes to the process of obtaining CDL licenses for employees, stipulating a mandatory four-week training course.
Rockey remarked, “The expenses associated with sending an employee to this training amount to several thousand dollars, rendering it unfeasible for our newer employees.”
The village hopes to have the program up and running within the next couple of weeks as their assistant village administrator is currently in the process of becoming the certified trainer for the program.
The village recently obtained a wetlands permit, allowing them to finish drainage work on the Iron Horse River Trail. In March, the council was informed that the project engineer had neglected to apply for the permit.
Although the permit was expected to take 45 days to process, it actually took several months. Crews still need to complete about 200 feet of drainage so that the base of the path can be laid. Despite the delay, the crews are still on track to finish the project by the end of September.
Council then motioned and approved to enter an executive session at 6:20 p.m. to discuss personnel employment.
Upon returning from the executive session council approved promoting Robert Houk to the Street Superintendent position that will be coming open at the end of the year when Dennis Bishop retires.
With nothing left to discuss, after that council adjourned for the evening. The next regular meeting will be on September 9th at 6:00 p.m.
