Be sure to mark your calendars to join us as the North Central High School Drama Club of 2022-2023 is proud to be the first in the area to present the new musical County Fair!

It will at times tug at your heart strings and yet is packed full of laughs and many of your favorite country hits such as “Chicken Fried,” “Hey Good Lookin’,” “The House That Built Me,” “Thank God I’m a Country Boy” along with so many others.

Performances of this all-new show are scheduled at North Central High School on April 28 (8:00 p.m.), April 29 (8:00 p.m.) and April 30 (3:00 p.m.).

Tickets will be available for purchase at the door and doors will open 30 minutes before each show.

This musical comedy is a tale of two sisters, Claudia and DJ Stratford, who after the death of their father, return home to deal with their inheritance, which is a massive and beloved county fair in rural America.

Thinking that this could be the cash windfall that they desperately seek, the sisters plan to sell off the fair’s land to the highest bidder, the Neo Execs, and then high tail it back to civilization.

But when Claudia starts to fall in love again with her county fair, the townsfolk including Coach Roberta, Chief Dogberry, friends Bea and Ben, and an over-apologetic fair board director Harry, Claudia’s heart leads her away from her sister and down a path she’s very unprepared for.

Needing the money to pay off a large, secret gambling debt to foreign mobster Boris, DJ must do whatever it takes to sell the fair – even if that means involving her past, small-time crooked friends Bessie and Connor in sabotaging her sister’s new romantic relationship.

Betrayals, imposters, and mistaken identity lead to “sister battling sister” in a winner-take-all Messina County Dixie Derby competition, set to vocals by the pop star band leader Sarah, to save the beloved county fair!

High school student cast members looking forward to bringing this comedy to life are as follows: Joe Burt (Harry), Star Cruz (DJ), Sami Cummins (Bessie), Clayton Douglass (Officer Dogberry), Erica Knapp (Boris), Ava Livengood (Sarah), Tesa Lopez (Fair Official), Kinsley Martin (Claudia), Paige Oxender (Brenda), Camden Stoots (Ben), Stephen Traxler (Connor), Ava VanAuken (Coach Roberta) and Amara Wright (Bea).

Other supporting parts include the softball team of Macie Gendron, Kendal Sutton, Mireya Cruz, Alyson Cook, Darbi Stewart, Davis White, Lilly McMillen, Maddie Zimmerman, Islynn Crafts, Lily McClanahan, Cailyn Meyers, Rylee Walker, Addy Turner and the security guards of Skylar Bostater, Ethan Beard, Johnny Hicks, Wyatt Gruber, Jameison Benedict, Tyler Meyers and Brenden Solano along with several already listed.

The industrious crew working hard to make everyone shine and for all to run smoothly are as follows: Brooke St. John and Alizabeth Pilmore (Student Directors), Cohen Meyers (Sound Board Engineer), Quin Burt (Light Board Engineer), Emma Taylor (Stage Manager), Johnny Hicks, Darbi Stewart, Cam Laney, Carter Eckley, Kade Stewart, Talen Reinbolt, Aiden Meyers and Alli Meyers.

The pit band includes pianist Sharon Deetz (assistant director), guitarist David Deetz (set design/construction) along with student Leah Reyome on percussion.

Inspired by Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing, County Fair, A Country Hits Musical is a new musical comedy first performed in the spring of 2022 by a Wisconsin High School.

It is presented through special arrangement with Broadway Licensing and was written by Matthew Webster and Taylor Ferrera.

We look forward to seeing you there, ready for toe-tapping music, some tug-at-your-heart moments and lots of laughs.

It is our hope that it will leave you with a grateful feeling about community and being proud of where you have come from.
