The National Day of Prayer was held throughout the United States this past week. On Thursday, May 2nd, thousands of churches and organizations across the country held events for the Day of Prayer. One such event was held here in Fulton County at the Special Grounds Coffee shop in Wauseon.
Community Relations Director Tara Dumas set up the event at Special Grounds, along with some other individuals at the organization.
Special Grounds is part of the Sara’s Garden organization, with the New Horizons Academy Career Center being located in the same building.
Tara explained that she and some other individuals pray every week on Thursday. “Since the beginning of the school year, myself and three other Sara’s Garden employees pray on Thursday mornings.”
“This year I realized that the National Day of Prayer fell on a Thursday. It was in my heart to do something here and connect with some local pastors to provide this day to anyone who wanted to participate so, we came here this morning and made this our place to pray.”
The prayer event at Special Grounds began at 6:30 a.m. and lasted until 12:00 p.m. The organization teamed up with local pastors Kent Knorr of the Pettisville Missionary Church, Landon Schaffner of the Haven Heights Baptist Church, and retired Pastor John Horning from the Pettisville Missionary Church. Throughout the morning people were encouraged to stop in and pray.
People came that morning specifically to pray, while others were customers who happened to notice what was happening and stayed to participate.
Prayer cards were also given out to those who either could not remain or wanted to pray later at home or elsewhere.
Additionally, pieces of paper were set out on tables with items to pray for, and a prayer box was set up for prayer requests.
On the paper located on tables, seven areas were highlighted for prayer. These items were the education of young people, the Body of Christ (the church), the arts, entertainment, and media, for leaders and elected officials in government, for businesses and the workplace, for our armed forces, and for families in our nation.
A scripture was included underneath each of the topics listed, with each scripture going on to speak about that topic.
