AYERSVILLE – The North Central boys varsity flew over to Ayersville to square off against the Archers on December 22. After getting off to a rough start and ending the first quarter with an 11 point deficit, the Eagles buckled down and tried to play their way back. They made a great effort, but never quite got out of that first quarter hole, losing 62-50.
Jalen Dancer had a monster night for North Central, scoring 23 of the team’s 50 points. Jalen scored 8 from inside the arc, 9 from outside, and led the team with his aggressive play, going 6 of 7 from the foul line. Cam Cochran and Clayton Ferguson also added considerably to the point total scoring 6 and 5 respectively.
While Dancer was far and away the game’s leading scorer, the next 5 scoring leaders belonged to Ayersville and it was in this way that the home team was able to defeat the visiting Eagles. With so many threats to defend, Ayersville was able to spread the Eagles thin and keep them running. That being said, it was really that initial first quarter lead that sustained Ayersville for the rest of the contest as the Eagles pretty much played them even for the rest of the game.
