On January 6, 2017, North Central Elementary held their annual spelling bee for students in grades 5 & 6. Five fifth graders and five six graders qualified for the finals through spelling bees that were held in the classrooms. After some intense rounds of spelling, the finalists were siblings Mario and Martha Marmolejo. Fifth grader Martha edged out her 6th grade brother to claim the title. However, all should be good at home as both qualified for the Williams County Spelling Bee. The county bee will be held on Monday, January 23, starting at 6:30 pm at Montpelier High School. Other students participating in the bee were sixth graders, Madison Braun, Quin Burt, Dominic Marino, and Alisha Singer. Fifth grade participants were, Katelyn Balser, Mireya Cruz, Sky Currence, and Grecia Dominguez.
