NWOAL TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Wauseon Boys & Liberty Center Girls Stake Claim To League Crowns

BRYAN – The Wauseon Indian boys’ team had three individual champions and was first in the 4×800 relay on their way to a league title while the Lady Indians were runner-up to Liberty Center last week at the NWOAL Track & Field Championships in Bryan.

In the boys competition, Wauseon garnered 135 points with Fulton County rivals Archbold (113.5) and Delta (112.5) finishing second and third, respectively.


Wauseon had three champions in the individual running events starting with Wyatt Smith taking the 200 and Jack Callan won both the 800 and 1600 meter races.

Delta won both hurdle events as Ronnie Wyse was first in the 110 with a time of 15.6 and Eli Mora won the 300 by running a 39.9.

Delta also picked up a pair of wins in the relay races by taking the 4×200 and 4×400 while Archbold won the 4×100 and Wauseon took the top spot in the 4×800.


Bryan got wins from Rylan Garza in the 100 and Brody Devlin in the 400.

Archbold and Evergreen swept the field events as Karter Behnfeldt won the high jump (6’00”) and Preston Nofziger took first in the pole vault after clearing the bar at 13’0”.

For the Vikings, Riley Dunbar took the gold in the long jump (20’11.25”) while Sam Worline was a double winner with first place finishes in the shot put (48’10.5”) and discus (133’0”).

For the girls, Liberty Center totaled 171 points to outdistance second-place Wauseon (102) and third-place Bryan (100.5) with the help of three individual league champions and three gold medals in the relay events.


Wauseon finished second behind several top three placers with Teagan Rupp picking up wins in pole vault and long jump to lead the way.

Bryan had two runners win multiple events starting with Jolana Schenkel taking the 100 and 200 while Kate Thormeier won both the 1600 and 3200 events.

Archbold also put two on top of the podium in two events with Mariah Mireles winning the 100 and 300 hurdles and Sophie Rupp won the 400 and high jump.
