Bryan City Council Approves Ordinances For Street Projects

The Bryan City Council held their meeting on Monday July 19th at 5:30pm. The Council and everyone that was in attendance performed the Pledge of Allegiance followed by an approval of the previous meetings minutes.

Council then moved to hear concerns from the public. With no one attending to speak, council moved to approve the Treasurers report.

Next on the agenda was Ordinance 27-2021 regarding giving authorization to the clerk-treasurer to issue change order #1 for the project known as “2021 asphalt program”. A motion to suspend was made and passed followed by a motion to approve the ordinance which was also passed.

Ordinance 28-2021 followed next regarding the entering into a contract with Gerken Paving, Inc. for the Project known as “2021 Brunicardi Way Pavement Overlay and Repairs.” A motion again was made to suspend which was passed followed by a motion to approve which passed as well.


Council then moved to Ordinance 29-2021 which will authorize the mayor to enter into an agreement with Griffin Pavement Striping, LLC for the project known as “2021 Pavement Marking Program”. A motion was made to suspend which passed followed by a motion to approve which passed.

Next was resolution 25-2021 regarding the accepting of amounts and rates as determined by the budget commission and authorizing the necessary tax levies and certifying them to the county auditor which is an annual appropriation. A motion to suspend was made and passed followed by a motion to approve which also passed.

Resolution 26-2021 then followed regarding the approval of the Community Reinvestment Area Tax Exemption Application as submitted by Airmate Company Inc. A motion was made to suspend which was approved followed by a motion to approve which passed as well.


Council then moved to hear a liquor permit request for the transfer of a buildings liquor permit to the new owners that bought a store in Bryan. A motion was made and approved.

Council then heard a request from the Bryan Police Department to give another civil service test that will allow the city to select new officers. A motion was made and approved.

Next there was a request to move a dispatcher from part-time to full-time, to accept a police officer coming to Bryan from West Unity, as well as a new officer out from the academy. A motion was made and was approved as well.

The council then moved to status changes. The first was to change an account clerk 2 in the clerk-treasurer’s office to an assistant office manager payroll position. Second was for a wastewater employee who had completed a 1-year apprenticeship to be moved to a class B status.


Last was for a street department worker who was a vehicle operator trainee who completed training and was to move to a regular vehicle operator position. A motion was made for each of these issues and were approved. The council then entered executive session before adjourning.
