Parents Charged In Death Of Infant

Marion Police are investigating the death of a 2-month-old child and have charged her parents in connection with the death.

Lithariel June Sprow died July 20, 2016. Her grandparents are David and Denise Oliphant of Bryan. She was born May 6.

Officers and detectives from the Marion Police Department responded to Marion General Hospital July 20 for a report an unconscious child who had been brought into the Emergency Room. The child died in the Emergency Room that day.


An autopsy has been conducted by the Franklin County Coroner’s Office and the examination revealed evidence of abuse and significant injury. This case is being investigated as a homicide.

Police arrested and charged the girl’s parents, Tyler A. Sprow, 22, Marion, and Brittany Oliphant, 18, also of Marion, with second-degree felony child endangering. The case remains under investigation and additional charges could be brought.

Authorities said no further comment will be made at this time.


Lithariel is survived by her grandparents Shelly L. (Terrance) Jones of Marion and David (Denise) Oliphant of Bryan; great-grandparents Don (Sandy) Vanscoder, and Don (Jan) Oliphant; uncles and aunts: Macy Sprow, Bry Sprow, Don Oliphant, Jesse Oliphant, Tiffany Oliphant, Shealana Booker and Aviana Greene; great uncles and aunts: Kathy (Lee) McCafferty, Jay (Francis) Lower, and Sharon Lower; parents Brittany Oliphant and Tyler Sprow.

Private services were held by the family.
