Paulding Man Sentenced To Prison For Aggravated Drug Possession

Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney Morris Murray has announced the release of the following information regarding certain pending criminal matters:

Prosecutor Murray has announced that 26-year-old Joshua A. Hernandez, of Evansville, Wisconsin, was sentenced to prison for Attempted Rape, a Felony of the Second Degree.

Also sentenced to prison was Chase R. Bussing, a 34-year-old Paulding man, for Two Counts of Aggravated Possession of Drugs.

Joshua A. Hernandez-age 26-Guilty plea to Attempted Rape-F2 and sentenced to 3 – 4 ½ years at ODRC, was classified as a Tier III sex offender which established lifetime registration requirements, jail credit for 521 days, costs.


According to Murray, on May 26, 2023, at a business on Ralston Ave., in Defiance, Hernandez attempted to engage in sexual conduct with another by force or threat of force.

Chase R. Bussing-age 34-Sentenced for Aggravated Possession of Drugs-F3 and Aggravated Possession of Drugs-F5 to a total of 41 months at ODRC, costs, 11 days jail credit.

According to Murray, on September 28, 2023, on Elmwood Dr., in Defiance, Bussing was found in possession of five grams of Methamphetamine, a Schedule II drug. Also, on October 8, 2023, Bussing was again found in possession of Methamphetamine, a Schedule II drug.


THE FOLLOWING PERSONS WERE BROUGHT BEFORE THE DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMON PLEAS COURT FOR ARRAIGNMENT ON FELONY MATTERS:

Tessa A. Yoho-age 47–Not Guilty plea, OR bond, pre-trial 12/10/24 @ 9:30 a.m.

THE FOLLOWING PERSONS HAVE RECENTLY ENTERED GUILTY OR NO CONTEST PLEAS IN THE DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMON PLEAS COURT:

Corey R. Cassidy-age 37-Guilty plea to Failure to Comply with Order or Signal of a Police Officer-F3, PSI ordered, sentencing 12/16/24 @ 1:30 p.m.


Anthony A. Roberts-age-45-Guilty plea to Aggravated Possession of Drugs-F2, PSI ordered, sentencing 12/20/24 @ 9:15 a.m.

Santos J. Marroquin-age 47-Guilty plea to Aggravated Possession of Drugs-F5, PSI ordered, sentencing 1/9/25 @ 1:30 p.m.

Joseph J. Conyers-age 36-Guilty plea to Trafficking in Marihuana-F3, PSI ordered, sentencing 1/9/25 @ 9:30 a.m.

Anthony E. Meyer-age 57-No Contest plea to Felonious Assault-F2, found Guilty, sentencing 11/21/24 @ 9:30 a.m.

PLEA/SENTENCING:
Dustyn L. Cantrell-age 38-No Contest plea to Theft-F5, found Guilty and sentenced to 2 years CCS with 12 months at ODRC reserved in the event of a violation of CCS, no bars/alcohol, not consume or possess cannabis, pay $1,119 in restitution to victims, no contact with or go on premises of B&B Molded Products, Wooden Indian Pawn Shop, Pack Rats Pawn Shop or Decked, attend and successfully complete the SEARCH Program in Bowling Green (held at CCNO pending admission), costs.

(On or between May 31, 2024, and June 15, 2024, Cantrell stole property from B and B Molded Products, on Ottawa Ave., in Defiance, and the property was valued at over two thousand dollars, but less than seven thousand five hundred dollars.)

THE FOLLOWING PERSONS HAVE RECENTLY BEEN SENTENCED IN THE DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMON PLEAS COURT:

Brandon K. Whalen-age 27-Sentenced for Aggravated Possession of Drugs-F5 to 2 years CCS with 12 months at ODRC reserved in the event of a violation of CCS, no bars/alcohol, not obtain, possess or use cannabis or cannabis products, costs.

(On April 20, 2024, during a traffic stop on Pearl St., in Sherwood, Whalen was found in possession of Methamphetamine, a Schedule II drug.)

Travis F. Kates-age 37-Sentenced for Breaking & Entering-F5 and Theft-M1 to 2 years CCS with 12 months at ODRC reserved in the event of a violation of CCS and 6 months at CCNO suspended in the event of a probation violation, no bars/alcohol, not obtain, possess or use cannabis or cannabis products, pay $260 in restitution to victims, costs. (On September 27, 2023, Kates trespassed in a structure on E. Main St., in Ney, and he then stole property from inside the structure.)

George B. Adkins-age 36-Sentenced for Burglary-F3 and Grand Theft when the Property is a Firearm or Dangerous Ordnance-F3 to 3 years CCS with 72 months at ODRC reserved in the event of a violation of CCS, no bars/alcohol, not consume or possess cannabis, no contact (direct or indirect) with victims/victim’s families/victim’s residences, pay $4,000 in restitution to victim (to be paid joint and several w/co-defendant), report to Defiance Co. Adult Probation Dept. w/in 1 business day upon release from incarceration being served in an unrelated matter, costs.

(On December 20, 2022, Adkins and a co-defendant participated in trespassing in a residence on Ginter Rd., in Defiance, during which a firearm was stolen.

Taleya D. Thomas-age 36-Sentenced for Two Counts of Telecommunications Fraud-F4’s to 4 years CCS with 36 months at ODRC reserved in the event of a violation of CCS, no bars/alcohol, not consume or possess cannabis, pay $9,676.10 in restitution to victim, costs. (On October 19 and 20, 2023, Thomas attempted to cash checks she knew to be fraudulent at a local bank, and the checks were written for over one thousand dollars.)

Kevin S. Nonhof-age 60-Sentenced for Attempted Felonious Assault-F3 to 4 years CCS with 36 months at ODRC reserved in the event of a violation of CCS, no contact with victim, serve 60 days at CCNO, pay $22,342.01 in restitution to victim, costs. (On February 16, 2024, outside of a business, on Columbus Ave., in Defiance, Nonhof attempted to cause serious physical harm to another.)
