(February 9th, 2015) – FAYETTE: The Pettisville Eighth Grade boys have been crowned the champions of the Buckeye Border Conference, defeating hosting school Fayette to earn the distiction.
The Blackbirds took down their fellow Fulton County foe 36-21 to earn the win.
Right away, the Pettisville defense helped to create some separation between themselves and the Fayette boys. By the first period’s conclusion, the Blackbirds enjoyed a 9-2 advantage. The Eagles did a better job of keeping pace in the second quarter, falling just behind their opponent 11-10. At the half, Pettisville controlled the contest with a 20-12 lead.
The third frame was the inverse of the second, with defense keeping the two teams close. Again, Pettisville came out just ahead, scoring 6 points to Fayette’s 4. Tacking on 2 more points to their lead, the Blackbirds saw their advantage grow to 9 points. Momentum would swing their way once again in the final period, as the boys from Pettisville closed out the game on a 10-4 run.
Blackbird Payton Moyer led all scorers with 14 points. His teammate Detric Yoder totaled 9 points in the win.
For Fayette, J. Livingston led the Eagles with 10 points.
