PETTISVILLE – With a fourth quarter free throw at North Central on January 13, Pettisville senior Cayden Jacoby become the tenth boys player to reach 1,000 career points.
The last player to do it at Pettisville was Cayden’s brother Graeme who hit the mark in 2020.
“It is a big accomplishment for me, but it couldn’t be done without my teammates throughout the years and my coaches”, commented Jacoby.”
“Reaching this just a few years after my brother just adds to the excitement.”
“Growing up I was always at all my brother’s practices when I was in first grade. I started playing AAU in 4th grade and my family has really encouraged me and pushed me to meet my goals”, added Jacoby.
“I would just tell younger players that hard work pays off. Know your role on the team and work well with others.”
“What makes Cayden a special player for us besides is basketball ability is his leadership”, said Pettisville Head Coach Brian Leppelmeier.
“Cayden is a great teammate. He is vocal during practices and games encouraging to his teammates. He genuinely cares about his team and our program.”
“Cayden has started since he has been a freshman. During his freshman season, he had the opportunity to play alongside his brother”, continued Leppelemeier.
“During that season, he stepped in and filled his role as a forward, as defender, and a rebounder. As a sophomore, Cayden had breakout season stepping in to fill the center position.”
“One of the biggest improvements over his career has been his ability to score through contact. Also, very similar to his brother’s career, Cayden has improved steadily from the free throw line over his four years: freshman Season – 52%, sophomore season – 58%, junior season-61%, and currently in his senior year – 70%.”
Jacoby’s accolades during his career include: sophomore season – BBC Co-Player of the Year 1st Team District 7 2nd Team Associated Press Northwest Ohio, Special Mention All-Ohio; Junior season; 1st Team BBC, 2nd Team District 7, 3rd Team Associated Press Northwest Ohio
As his career comes to close, Jacoby reflected on some his fondest memories while being a Blackbird.
“Some of my favorite memories would include playing with my brother, being a role model for my school and helping out wherever I can with the elementary basketball and being able to mentor them”, said Jacoby, who is currently undecided on his plans after graduation.
