PETTISVILLE (April 7, 2025) – Because of the congestion of trains outside Pettisville, a number of fans were late arrivals for the Blackbirds softball game against Ottawa Hills.

However, after taking a 1-0 lead, Ottawa Hills found themselves standing on the tracks and the train was coming through as Pettisville scored a whopping 32 runs on their way to a 32-1 rout of the winless Green Bears.

Macy Hoylman allowed a first inning unearned run on a hit batter, a throwing error on a stolen base and a ground out.

From then out, Hoylman mowed down 12 of the last 13 Green Bear hitters, giving up just one walk and two hits in the complete game win.

Offensively the Blackbirds scored early and often, getting eight in the first. Kelsie Bennett’s base hit started the salvo, and after three walks and a ground out produced a pair of runs, Bailey Booth rifled a bases loaded double that cleared the bases and gave Pettisville a 5-0 lead.

Sophie Beltz’s double knocked home another and Hoylman helped herself out with a run scoring single.

Grace Hastings triple to open the second started a rally that put six more runs on the board. Booth and Beltz each had run scoring hits before three straight Green Bear errors brought home the rest of the runs in the inning.

Abbi Opdycke’s bases loaded triple, Olivia Miller’s two-run homer, along with RBI hits from Bennett, Booth and Hastings keyed a massive 14-run third to make it 26-1.

Naomi Richer had a two-run single and Sienna Sierra added a hit to knock home another as Pettisville got six more in the fourth.

The Blackbirds had 17 hits in the game with Hastings, Booth and Beltz getting three each.
