The Pike-Delta-York Local School Board met in regular session on Wednesday, October 19 at 6:30 p.m. with all board members present.

The board approved the minutes from the September 28, 2022 regular meeting.

Approximately ten guests were also in attendance including three students who received the “Student of the Month” Certificate of Achievement.

Delta Elementary principal Ellen Bernal, presented the certificate to third grader Jordan Inkrott.

A letter from Inkrott’s teacher, Ms. Gillen, was read to the board and outlined a few reasons why Inkrott was deserving of the award.

“His work ethic is contagious and he encourages other students to want to work hard and give their best effort.” Ms. Gillen offers.

“He works to make all students around him feel included and appreciated.  He approaches everything he does with a positive attitude,” Gillen’s letter continued.

Seventh grade student Olivia Mohring received the Student of the Month title from Delta Middle School Principal William Hanak.

A letter from the 7th grade team, read by Hanak, shared that Olivia is a “Happy girl whose enthusiasm is contagious.

Her effort and positive influence on her teammates is always appreciated.”

Alex Brown, a junior at Delta High School, was presented his award by Principal Douglas Ford.

Brown’s Spanish teacher, Mrs. Egan said in a letter “Alex is an extremely hard worker who always puts his best effort into all of his work.

He is a quiet leader and a great role model to others and is most deserving for this award.”

School Treasurer Matt A. Feasel then spoke on the September 2022 Monthly Financial Report noting “Bottom line we are right on target.”

Revenue for the month was as expected in terms of a total. There are some discrepancies with donation agreements and the timing of them being invoiced.

The district is no longer receiving field trip reimbursement as in the past however, since they are no longer spending those funds, this has a net zero effect.

Investments continue to run ahead of projections along with the state foundation and categorical funding.

“We will be making adjustments within our November of 2022 forecast.  “I can’t wait to get these projections where they belong so we can eliminate these variances,” Feasel’s report noted.

Feasel spent some time going over the E.S.S.E.R. Financial Update.  E.S.S.E.R. stands for the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund, a federal program administered by the Department of Education in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The program provides emergency financial assistance to public school districts across the country.

After three rounds of E.S.S.E.R. funds received in years 2020 through 2022, the account balance of those funds still available sits at $574,628.19.

84.71% of the E.S.S.E.R. funds received were used for instruction items such as computers, software, smartboards.  Other E.S.S.E.R. expenditures were in the following categories:

  • 23% in Health Services
  • 52% in Family and Community
  • 66% in Professional Development
  • 78% in Facility Safety & Security
  • 09% in Transportation.

Feasel concluded by offering that the recent Bureau of Worker’s Comp worked out well and he has been informed that the regular state audit staff will be coming soon.

The treasurer’s report was then approved by the board.
