PIKE-DELTA-YORK BOARD OF EDUCATION: Board Recognizes Students Of The Month For March

The Pike-Delta-York Board of Education meeting began at 6:30 p.m. on March 16, 2022. Board President, Michael Mattin, called the meeting to order, followed by Treasurer, Matt A. Feasel, calling the roll of Board Members. The Board approved minutes from the previous meeting on February 22, 2022.

Elementary school principal, Ellen Bernal, presented student of the month for the elementary classes, (fourth grader) Gavin Hanely.


Although not able to attend the meeting, middle school student Hannah Tedrow (sixth grader) was made student of the month.

High school sophomore Ethan Cone, presented by Andrea Johnson, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, Assessment and Communication, was made Student of the Month for March, 2022.

Principal Ellen Bernal gave her elementary school report, during which she shared the school had completed the first round of alternative assessments for the Third Grade Reading Guarantee.


Mrs. Bernal also shared that starting April 5, 2022, they will begin state testing.

Middle School Principal, Pete Nafziger, shared they are beginning with Sources of Strength, which is an upstream suicide-prevention program that encourages positive connections between adult and peer advisors.

On March 8, 2022, five staff members along with twenty-eight students met to plan their first campaign for the program, and created a presentation to show at the April staff meeting.

Mr. Nafziger announced the Delta Middle School completed “The Jungle,” which is the middle schools Winter Olympics. The School hosted nine events and had three hundred and forty-six students participate. At the closing ceremony they honored fifty-three medalists.


Superintendent, Ted Haselman, shared the school will be adding a new member, Kaden Peper. Mr. Peper, who graduated from Liberty Center and Four County Career Center, will be the Administrators Assistant/ Information Technology Support Specialist at PDY Schools.

Mr. Haselman shared that student Braxton Burks will be graduating early this year, due to completion of his academics early.

Pike-Delta-York’s Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter will be traveling May 4, 2022, to Columbus, Ohio for a two-night trip to the Ohio FFA Convention. FFA teacher, Jessie Schulze, and a few parent chaperones will be accompanying the trip.

The FFA class will be taking a second trip in June or July of 2022, to the Ohio FFA Camp Muskingum, with exact dates to be discussed.

For a third overnight trip, members of the FFA Program will travel to Washington, DC to participate in the Washington Leadership Conference in July of 2022.

The PDY Board of Education moved to an executive session at 7:11 p.m. to discuss the appointment, employment, dismissal, discipline, promotion, denotation, or compensation of an employee or the investigation of charges or complaint against an employee, official, licensee, or student, or to discuss the purchase of a public property for public Purposes or the sale of property at competitive bidding.

The executive session ended at 8:15 p.m. with no action taken.
