Delta, Ohio- March 29, 2023: The Pike-Delta-York Local School District hired Mr. Shawn Murphy to be the new Middle School Principal at the district’s March 29, 2023 board meeting.

Mr. Murphy comes to Pike-Delta-York from Tiffin Middle School where he has served in a variety of administrative positions – most recently as the building principal – for 16 years.

He previously taught at Seneca East Local Schools prior to going to Tiffin. He holds an undergraduate degree from Heidelberg University, a master’s degree from Ashland University, and he has completed additional post-masters work at the University of Findlay. Mr. Murphy, originally from Marion, Ohio, is a graduate of River Valley High School.

Mr. Murphy stated, “I currently serve as a middle school principal and embrace the independence yet uniqueness that comes from working with middle level students.”

“Pike-Delta-York Local School District has strong academic programming, a student-centered staff, and an invested community.”

“Throughout the interview process, I was impressed with the level of professionalism and energy present in the district.”

He went on to say, “I am eager to start building relationships with staff, students, and our school community.”

“Additionally, I am excited to learn more about the successes of our building and how I can best serve as [the] principal.”

He is looking forward to connecting and working towards the building’s collective goals.

Said Dr. Ted Haselman, Superintendent, “With every opening at Pike-Delta-York we run a rigorous search to find the best candidate and this search to hire a new middle school principal was no different.”

“We had a very strong candidate pool and Shawn Murphy rose to the top. I am excited to add Shawn to the PDY leadership team as he brings quality experience and a strong ability to lead. I believe Delta Middle School will benefit from Mr. Murphy at the helm.”

Murphy was selected from a very competitive pool of applicants. The district received 14 applications of which eight were interviewed by the hiring committee.
