The Pike-Delta-York Local School District Board of Education met last week where it approved new substitute pay rates among other business at the kickoff of the 2024-2025 school year.
Under the new substitute staff rates, teachers will be paid $105 per day, while custodial staff will receive $13 per hour, food service staff will receive $13.25 per hour, aides will receive $11.61 per hour, secretaries will receive $12.53 per hour, and bus drivers will receive $16.40 per hour.
In addition to approving the rates, the board authorized Superintendent Jon Burke to ensure the qualifications of and approve the use of substitutes for both certificated and classified staff for the school year.
In addition to other staffing approvals, the board approved the resignation of third grade teacher Samantha Black, who has accepted a position as a kindergarten teacher at Archbold Elementary School.
They also accepted the resignation of Secretary Patty Stambaugh in conjunction with the resignation of 1.5 hours per day of aide work from Jayme Marr, who was approved to begin working four hours per day as secretary.
Matt Brighton’s resignation as assistant for seventh grade middle school football was accepted along with his hiring as assistant for eighth grade middle school football.
Brian Egan and Jerremiah Wolford were approved – each at 50% – as new assistants for seventh grade middle school football.
Non-athletic supplemental contracts were approved for Jessica Gilbert as high school kindness club advisor, Riley Runnels as choreographer, Derek Friess for a media production stipend, Brianne Birr as seventh grade class advisor, Stefanie Hoffman as the LPDC chairperson and Laura Brown for wellness.
OTHER BUSINESS
The board considered a resolution to join the Ohio Coalition for Equity and Adequacy of School Funding. The board approved a contract for virtual speech therapy services between the district and EASE Therapy out of Willard as part of its overall special education program, with speech pathology services running from August 14 until December 31.
The board was notified of an Ag/FFA overnight trip for student McKenzie Clapp along with Ag teacher Jessie Schulze to “The Big E” competition in West Springfield, Massachusetts. Clapp earned the opportunity by placing third at the state cattle contest.
The board approved a shared services agreement with Fulton County allowing schools in the county to transport students to the same events to reduce transportation costs and conserve resources.
The board approved an agreement with Wood County Juvenile Residential Center of Northwest Ohio for any necessary services at rates of $88 per day to the juvenile detention center and $96 per day to the juvenile residential center. The board approved changes to the 2024-2025 LPDC handbook.
The next regular meeting of the Pike-Delta-York Local School District Board of Education will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 25 in the Delta High School auditorium.
