(Graduated From Bryan High School In 1958)
Veteran
Robert (Bob) C. Davis, 83, of Bryan, Ohio and formerly of Sherwood, Ohio passed away Sunday, October 29, 2023, at Parkview Bryan Hospital.
Bob was born June 12, 1940, in Edgerton, Ohio, son of the late Robert Benjamin and Bernetta “Jane” (Hudkins) Davis.
He was a 1958 graduate of Bryan High School. Bob married Jean Margaret Joost on March 13, 1979, and they were happily married until her death in 2002.
Bob served in the United States Navy for 20 years, serving from 1958-1978. While enlisted in the Navy, he completed two tours in Vietnam and was stationed on the USS Midway and the USS Ogden amongst many others.
He worked both on aircraft carriers and submarines throughout his years of service, and he also enjoyed being stationed in our local area as a Navy recruiter.
He was immensely proud of his military service and always enjoyed telling stories about his time on the ships and submarines and his trips all over the world.
After retiring from the Navy, Robert worked various jobs, selling insurance for Farm Bureau in Hillsdale, Michigan, installing and servicing HVAC units, and worked until retirement for Defiance County’s Environmental Services, serving as the Special Projects Supervisor.
Following the death of his wife in 2002, he enjoyed driving cars for regional car dealerships and car auctions, which allowed him to travel and see the country. Bob loved flying airplanes and owned several throughout his life.
He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and, after moving to his apartment, repairing clocks, music boxes, and various other items he would pick up at Goodwill.
He always had a little project going to keep his hands and brain busy. Bob was ornery and had a great sense of humor. If you knew him, you probably also remember a joke or two he told.
Most of the time, if he was telling you a story it was going to end in a punchline. He was able to live independently, as he wished, until his death, which was a blessing.
Surviving are his two children, Maggie (Chris) Polley of Grand Ledge, Michigan, and Robert (Candy) Davis of Fort Wayne, Indiana; four grandchildren, Corbyn, Henry, and Charlotte Polley, and Annie (Dylan) Poston; two great-grandchildren, Brody and Cayne Poston; sister, Valerie Welker and brother, Gary (Joan) Davis.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Davis; and two brothers, James Davis and Linden Davis.
No service or visitation will be held, per Bob’s wishes. Inurnment will be made at St John Lutheran Cemetery, Sherwood. Arrangements are in care of Oberlin-Turnbull Funeral Home, Bryan, Ohio.
