Roger was born on May 31, 1936, to Margaret (Bucher) La Plante and Sereno La Plante of Whitehouse, Ohio. Roger attended Anthony Wayne High School and was an avid baseball player.
Upon graduation, he was accepted at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. At OU, he majored in Geology minored in Chemistry and earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
At Bowling Green State University, he went on to obtain his Master of Arts degree in Chemistry.
On June 2, 1962, he married Marilyn Alice Pile, of Sylvania, Ohio and worked as a chemist in Tulsa, OK.
The following year, Roger joined Amoco Production Research as a geochemist. During that time, several papers that he wrote, were published by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists.
After many years at Amoco, Roger moved the family back to Ohio and eventually settled in Archbold.
In Archbold, Roger was employed by the Village of Archbold Water Department. Upon retirement, Roger and Marilyn traveled to many states in the U.S. as well as the Canadian Rockies. They also enjoyed spending time along the shore of Lake Michigan.
Surviving family members include, daughter, Patricia (Jon) Dennis of Salado, Texas, two sons, Steven La Plante of Archbold, Jeffrey (Tammy) La Plante of Spring Branch, Texas, three grandchildren, Brett (Raven) La Plante, Marc La Plante, and Rosemary Dennis; as well as his sister, Suzanne Shook of Sturgis, MI, his brother, Les (Betty) La Plante of Oceanside, CA, and his sister Luann (Chuck) Perzynski of Toledo, Ohio.
A memorial service will be planned for a later date at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church in Archbold, with Deacon Steve Basselman officiating. Roger will be interred at Archbold Cemetery in Archbold Ohio during a private cemetery.
