Shirley A. Short, age 81, of Montpelier passed away at 4:30 am on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center in Defiance, OH. She was born onSeptember 17, 1934 in Northwest Township, Williams County, Ohio to Charles and Iris (Joyce) Pignataro. She graduated from Montpelier High School in 1952. On February 20,1954 she married William J. Short and he preceded her in death on July 4, 2013.

A devoted wife and mother, Shirley received much joy from being around others. She lived a life of service to her community working for many years as a waitress at Santa’s Exit 2.Shirley eventually retired after a career in retail management positions. She at one time also worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Thomas T. Taylor, MD, and at the Montpelier Waterand Light Department. Shirley was a member of the Bryan Women of the Moose #618, and the West Unity Order of the Eastern Star.

She is survived by two sons, Rick (Alesia) Short of West Unity and Timothy (Mary) Short of Montpelier; one daughter Jill Barnd of Bryan; four grandchildren, Shane (Sara) Short ofCincinnati, Melissa (Jeff) McNulty of Columbus, Adam (Brandi) Short of New Haven, Indiana, and Kristi Barnd of Napoleon; one great grandson Aiden Short of Cincinnati; one brotherGene (Sue) Pignataro of Bronson, Michigan; one brother in law Robert Lantz of Archbold; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by her parents.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Defiance Area Inpatient Hospice Center.  Online condolences can be left for the family at www.thethompsonfuneralhome.com.
