The December 16 Christmas Sleigh Rides With Santa event in Edgerton was up against the meteorological clock before it even began.

Sponsored by the Edgerton Chamber of Commerce, the event was scheduled to begin at 6:00, and a major winter storm was scheduled to arrive at 7:00. The event went off as scheduled, and the storm held off long enough for an estimated 150 people to enjoy a cold but pleasant evening as the guests of Santa and Mrs. Claus, on sleigh rides provided courtesy of the DeKalb County Horsemen’s Association.

While awaiting their turn to climb aboard at the Village Hall depot, attendees were able to get hot chocolate and cookies from an Edgerton Junior Class fundraiser that netted $56 on the evening. The sleigh ride covered a course that was laid out to coincide with a Christmas light competition that was also sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce.

When the votes were tallied in the lights competition, Day’s Carpet took first place in the business category, while the home of Dean and Lisa Thiel took first in the residential category, with the Scott and Nicole Hartley home gaining the title of runners-up.
