FAYETTE MAYOR – DAVE BORER
“We’ve had a lot of ups and downs as we all are aware, but the positives certainly outweigh the negatives.
At the end of ‘25 we had a budget ready to pass, only to find out that Eagle Machine had announced it was going to close in two months.
So instead of meeting to pass a budget, we felt like we had the wind knocked out of us and needed to regroup and start over with the budgeting process. We made hard decisions to cut staff and tried to maintain as many services as possible within the fiscal constraints we were presented with.
We had a lot of great things happen to us in ‘25, though. We finished phase one of our water line replacement project.
The parking lot at Normal Grove got a much-needed facelift with a totally new asphalt surface prior to The Bullthistle Festival in August.
During The Bullthistle Festival we had an awesome drone light show sponsored by Ritter Station Solar. Fulton County celebrated its 175th birthday along with the Fayette Church of the Nazarene’s 100th birthday, and citizen of the year Don Glasgow also turned 100 in 2025.
Gorham Township first responders Megan Day and Jada Reinking helped deliver two babies as part of their duties last year. The fire department received a FEMA grant of $245,348 to upgrade support equipment to aid public safety throughout the township.
The volunteer groups again last year made many improvements to help make life better in the Village of Fayette, with things like the little library at Hatcher Park and the business and activity signs at each edge of town.
The flower boxes brighten up downtown with each seasonal change. The Farmer’s Market gives everyone the chance to come together, to visit and listen to local talent sing, and purchase wonderful food and other products from entrepreneurs that enjoy what they do. The military banners by the legion auxiliary continue to grow and promote pride within our community.
The Harvest Host camping community brought 26 tourists from all over the country to enjoy our park and businesses in the downtown. Positive reviews they have sent in are a testament to the hard work our crew puts forth to maintain our park for all to enjoy, as well as the places uptown to have lunch or dinner.
I’m looking forward to 2026 as we finish phase two of our water line replacement project. The replacement of the water plant roof is another undertaking that has been in the works and will be done this summer, along with some new playground equipment that will be getting installed in the park. All these projects are getting done with grant funding.
It takes a lot of time and work from our staff and council members to make these projects a possibility, and I would like to thank everyone that has stepped up to make all these goals possible and make 2026 a very exciting year for everyone in the Fayette community.
The Bullthistle Festival will be celebrating its 50th trip down Fayette St. and into the park this summer, as well as many other activities in the county, state, and nation as we celebrate the 250th anniversary of the founding of this great nation.
The mayor and his wife will also be celebrating 50 years together this summer, and I can’t think of a better place to be for all this awesome activity.
Thank you all for your time.
Mayor Dave Borer
