State Patrol Investigating Crash In Defiance County Involving Two Bryan Residents

(PRESS RELEASE) Washington Township- The Defiance Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a three-vehicle, serious injury crash.

The crash occurred on October 21, 2022 at approximately 10:20am on State Route 15, near mile post 5, Washington Township, Defiance County, Ohio.

Lorin Shonk, of Bryan, Ohio, was operating a 2006 Buick Lacrosse southeast bound on State Route 15.


Guy LaFontaine, of Parma Heights, Ohio, was also southeast bound on State Route 15, operating a 2020 Peterbilt.

Shonk attempted to pass Lafontaine and struck June Pearly of Bryan, Ohio, head on, who was operating a 2010 Ford Escape.

Shonk sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio.

Shonk’s passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported by Ney/Washington EMS to Bryan Hospital in Bryan, Ohio.


Pearly sustained minor injuries and was taken to Bryan Hospital by Sherwood EMS. Safety belts were in use for all drivers and occupants.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol was assisted on scene by Defiance County Sheriff’s Office, Sherwood EMS, Ney/Washington Township EMS, Ney/Washington Township Fire, Mercy Health Life Flight and John’s Towing. This crash is still under investigation.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol encourages drivers and occupants to always wear their safety belts and to never drive distracted or impaired.
