At approximately 3:06 a.m. a Ford Explorer police cruiser, operated by a Van Wert Police Officer, was responding to an incident and was traveling northbound on Mendon Road at US Route 30.

As the Ford Explorer crossed the westbound lanes of US 30 it was struck by a westbound 2011 Chevrolet Express van, driven by a single male occupant. After the collision the vehicles continued off the roadway.

The driver of the Ford Explorer was transported to Ohio Health-Van Wert for non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet Express van was flown from the scene to Parkview Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.

The Van Wert Post was assisted on scene by the Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Van Wert Fire Department, Samaritan Medical Transport, Hague’s Towing & Repair, and Jim Schmidt Towing.
