The Stryker Local Schools Board of Education held its regular meeting on June 23 at 5:30 p.m. Financial planning, staffing changes, and administrative updates were conducted on the agenda for the 2025-2026 academic year.
All members were present, including Board President Brent Froelich, Vice President Emily Clemens, Sharon vonSeggern, Chase Stuckey, and Dan Hughes.
The board began by approving the agenda and the minutes from the previous May 19 meeting. Financial reports for May were presented, revealing a general fund cash balance of over $8.5 million.
Key expenditures included personnel services, retirement contributions, and debt service payments. A $300 donation to the Stryker Band Fund from the Stryker American Legion was also accepted.
Several important financial motions followed, such as the approval of temporary appropriations for fiscal year 2026 and the amended certificate of estimated resources. These are both annual motions to help the Stryker school better prepare for the upcoming year.
The board also approved participation in all federal education programs and food service programs, as well as insurance coverage through SORSA.
Personnel changes were another major focus of the meeting. Several resignations were accepted: Conner Ruffer (Science Teacher), Dustin Maroon (Band/Music Teacher), and Allyson Rupp (2nd Grade Elementary Teacher).
Supplemental contracts for a variety of extracurricular and athletic roles were also approved, although many positions remain unfilled and will be hired as needed.
Maverick Widener was employed as the new science teacher, with Kennedy Kania also hired for the 2nd grade teaching position. More information on the new band teacher replacement will follow as the official position is offered.
Additionally, the board approved transportation routes for the 2025-2026 school year, granting authority to the Transportation Supervisor and Superintendent to make necessary adjustments.
Agreements were also approved with both the Wood County and Northwest Ohio Juvenile Detention, Training, and Rehabilitation Centers for student services.
Superintendent Nate Johnson shared an update on the Ag. Tech addition building, and courtyard infill. Stryker is currently waiting on temporary occupancy paperwork to be filed.
Equipment has been moved into the building. The infill is “moving along very well,” stated Johnson, with the next steps including roofing and concrete filling. The project is expected to be completed by winter break.
Looking ahead, it was noted that the next regular meeting is scheduled for July 28, at 5:30 p.m.
The board moved into executive session at 5:42 p.m. to discuss an investigation of charges or complaints against a public employee.
