On December 15, 2015 the Stryker Senior Center welcomed Joan Horne as the new site manager. Betsy Thorp held the position previously. While the location may have changed for Joan, the job hasn’t. Prior to Stryker, Joan held the position of site manager at the Edgerton Senior Center. She’s also been with the Williams County Department of Aging for the past ten years and is the coordinator for the Volunteer Guardian Program.

As the site manager, she oversees activities, meals, shopping, outings, and day-to-day life. Her priority is to get the seniors involved and find out what the center wants and what they like to have. As she sees it, the Stryker Senior Center is “their center”. She finds working with the seniors, helping them, and encouraging them as the most rewarding part of her position.

The biggest challenge for Joan is getting people to realize you don’t have to be old to come to the Stryker Senior Center. It’s a place to socialize and it’s an important part of the community. And the community supports the center. Joan had high praises for The Village of Stryker keeping the center safe for seniors, especially during the winter months.

Regular hours run from 9-3pm (419-682-2083), but as Joan says “If you see the lights on, come on in”. Stop by to visit or volunteer. The Stryker Senior Center belongs to the seniors and the community.
