(April 29th, 2015) – STYRKER: A low scoring affair, it took Archbold until the eighth inning to put up a multi-run inning against the stingy Stryker defense. Still, the Panthers were unable to match that display, falling to the Blue Streaks in extra innings.
The final score read 4-1, with the Panther boys on the wrong side of that differential.
Archbold put up 1 run in the opening inning of play. Despite that quick start, they wouldn’t add to that number until after the conclusion of regulation. The Panther offense struggled as well, not putting up a run until the bottom of the fifth It, too, would be the only run scored by the home team before extra innings.
With both teams locked in a 1-1 tie at the completion of seven innings, extra innings were required to decide the contest. The Blue Streaks found their offense in the top of the eighth, bringing in 3 runs. Stryker couldn’t match that total, as they were unable to score a run. Because of this, the final score doesn’t quite articulate how close this game really was.
Brody Shock provided the Panthers with their sole run of the evening. The sophomore standout hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fifth for the RBI. He had a single as well. Parker Ruffer had little trouble finding the ball for Stryker, earning 3 singles and a double. Junior Chad Ruffer added 2 singles to the Panther hit total.
Lasting all eight innings, Chad Ruffer handled pitching responsibilities as well. He allowed 2 earned runs from 8 hits. Ruffer also struck out 5 Archbold batters, walking 3 more in the loss.
