(April 29th, 2015) – STRYKER: The Lady Panthers struggled against North Western Athletic Conference power Archbold for most of the contest between the two squads. Yet, Stryker never gave up, fighting until the very end, limiting a team with an explosive offense to just 12 runs. While that may not seem impressive at first glance, anyone who’s actually seen the Lady Blue Streaks play understands that the hometown girls of Stryker need to play a heck of a defensive game just to keep the Archbold score that low.
Stryker found themselves bested by the Blue Streaks 12-2 in five innings.
In the top of the first, Archbold got the ball rolling early with a 3 run showing. Refusing to hear a rebuttal from the Panthers, the girls from Fulton County racked up 4 more runs in the second. In the top half of the third inning, the Blue Streaks added another run the their total. A 4 run effort in the fourth concluded the Archbold scoring for the day, as they were finally shut out in the fifth frame. The bottom of the fourth, however, saw 2 runs fall Stryker’s way. If they could have scored even a single run in the bottom of the fifth, they could have extended the contest by at least one more inning. Stryker wasn’t able to though, and Stryker saw Archbold leave them a 10 run loss.
Pitching all five innings for the Panthers was Miranda Maynard. Giving up 9 earned runs off of 9 hits, it was a tough outing for hte sophomore. She did strike out 3 Blue Streak batters in the loss.
Panther Senior Katie Yoder drove in both of Stryker’s runs in the game, hitting a 2 RBI single. Sierra Walters earned a pair of singles with her bat. Emily Cadwell and Miranda Pegorch each had singles as well.
