With the statement that the judging was hard to do, just like last year, Stryker Mayor Joe Beck handed the results of the vote to Council President Lee Armstrong to read at the December 21, 2020 Stryker Village Council meeting.
Armstrong announced that 3rd place goes this year to Beth North located at 207 E. Church St., 2nd goes to Dan and Pinge Benk at 6789 CR 19-50 and 1st place (drumroll please) goes to Wayne and Joyce Elling at 7503 CR 22.75.
Only around ten homes were entered in the contest, but Stryker village and the surrounding area has a plethora of fully decorated homes, offering a lovely evening ride for any Christmas Light lovers.
Council voted to approve the minutes for the November 16 regular meeting, Finance meeting minute of same date, and the finance report as of December 18, 2020, which included an updated report on how the Covid funds were spent. Also approved were:
- Ordinance 2020-08 – Payroll ordinance (with rules suspended)
- Ordinance 2020-09 – 2020 Revised Permanent Annual Appropriations with the 4th round of Covid money
- Ordinance 2020-10 – 2021 Permanent Annual Appropriations
In his monthly report, Police Chief Steve Schlosser informed council that Patrolman Jordan Williams is settling into his new position as full-time officer and he is “extremely pleased to have him back.” Patrolman Shaun Fulk is also back on staff and will be available in January.
He believes that two officers will be leaving within the next month to fill full time positions elsewhere. On Tuesday, December 8, 2020, he attended training along with the WC Police Chiefs Association at the Bryan Police Department for the Ohio Collaborative, making SPD well on its way to becoming certified in Group 1.
Since the November meeting, the department answered sixty-five calls with 27 Traffic Warnings, 2 traffic citations and 1 adult arrest.
Village Administrator Al Riegsecker reported that Leaf Pickup is finished but the dumpster will be available for residents till January 1, 2021. The snowplow has been out a few times and he gave a big reminder to residents: WHEN THERE IS 3” OF SNOW OR MORE, IT IS REQUIRED TO PARK IN LOTS AND NOT ON MAIN STREET.
Police Department will be asked to remove any vehicles, at the owner’s expense, that are on the street when the plow needs to be used. Chief Schlosser said they will be towed to the lot behind the Police Station.
Mayor Beck shared some communications from Joint Solid Waste Management, from new Sheriff, and from WEDCO asking they appoint attendees. They are planning to ask Beth Rediger and Patsy Mealer if they are willing to do it again as well.
He reminded them that a president needs to be elected at the January meeting. He spent a few minutes commending a group of Stryker individuals who spent time working on Adopt a Family, to bless some families in Stryker. Many companies in Stryker and surrounding communities contributed, as well as individuals.
There were six families including 21 children and three single people who received from this effort. Armstrong thanked Officer Jonathon Wood for helping with the deliveries and making it fun as he let a giant teddy bear ride around in the squad car all day.
Council member Sam Farmer thanked the EMT’s who came to care for him a few weeks ago when he was in need. Councilman Sean Ingram wished everyone a Merry Christmas, adding, “God bless us everyone!” Armstrong thanked Officer JR for his quick response to the fire at the apartments. Dave Benner, on Zoom, wished all a Merry Christmas, also.
The meeting adjourned.
